SocaFM is run by a small collective of soca fans with nothing better to do but bring you endless hours of musical delight.

The online station is an initiative of FirstBeat - a London based soca-centric music company run by Esmond Bunsie who was born in Trinidad and after giving the teachers at Fatima College a hard time moved to the UK where he has lived for the past 35 years.A small businessman, Esmond has taken lead roles in the organising of Notting Hill Carnival and has been involved in the soca and reggae music industries for over 20 years as an executive producer and broadcaster working with some of the region's premier calypsonians including Nelson, Beckett, Director and Calypso Rose and he is now focussing his energies on working with the Caribbean's new talent.

Bernard Thompson
aka DJ Fats originally hails from San Juan in Trinidad. He moved to the UK in 1962, just before Independence and started deejaying in a club in London in 1964, at the height of ska fever and just as rocksteady was beginning to come on the scene. In 1977 he started playing soca with Mangrove during Notting Hill Carnival. He co-founded First Beat with Esmond Bunsie in 1996 and together they have been producing soca music with artists from London, Trinidad and the US.

They see SocaFM as a step further in this Caribbean music's evolution.

The resident techie is Richard Baldwin who was born in Trinidad and is now living and working in New York.  When he isn't fiddling with socafm Richard runs a company that focuses on internet and distributed technology company.  He is also a founding member of  "Otro Sabor" now known as "Sabor", the band that performs with the wild meat man himself the Scrunter.

A QRC old boy and graduate of City University of New York and Columbia University, Richard thinks technology has the capability to enhance life in ways we are yet to experience and Socafm is a perfect example of this.

On the Sound side of things we have Kerwin DuBois, best known as a soca artist and competitive and thought-provoking young singer in the more traditional calypso arena.

Since moving to the UK, Kerwin has been involved in singing, songwriting and producing and has worked with SocaBee and Fats on First Beat productions in those capacities.

He has worked with some of the soca scene's hottest acts, including Machel Montano and 2004 Soca Monarch Bunji Garlin.  Kerwin brings his expertise in the form of the creation of jingles for the station and for clients and frequently burns up the airwaves under the name Ensoniq.
