The St. Kitts and Nevis government is looking at other countries to get forensic work done after Jamaica and the United States indicated that they are too stretched to provide assistance. The revelation came during this week's sitting of the St. Kitts Cabinet. Minister of State for Information, Senator Nigel Carty told journalists that the FBI lab in the United States had indicated that with its own resources being stretched because of the Iraq war, it is no longer able to respond timely to external demands on its resources.Senator Carty disclosed that the Government Forensic lab in Jamaica cited increased activity in its own jurisdiction which presented similar challenges. He said Jamaican officials argued that they were not in a position to give more urgent support to requests from other countries. For years Government Forensic lab personnel in Jamaica have complained about inadequate equipment, a man power shortage and a huge case load. |
