St. Lucia’s Sir John Compton. On Tuesday Acting Prime Minister Stephenson King announced that the government is now in a position to outline the timeframe by which ailing Prime Minister Sir John Compton will demit office allowing for the appointment of his successor.Sir John, who is 82-years-old, and led the United Workers Party back into government last December after a 10-year absence, has been suffering from a series of mild strokes since April requiring his hospitalization in St. Lucia and the United States. He has rarely been seen in public and Mr. King admitted that St. Lucians were within their right to call for a suitable replacement for the elder statesman. The departure of Sir John could also result in a by-election in the Micoud North constituency, which Sir John recaptured in the December polls after having bowed out of politics a few years ago. |
