BARBADOS' NO. 1 soca queen, Alison Hinds wants to "roll" onto the international market as a solo artiste. Soca Queen Alison.
"My music is already outside of Barbados and it is already in the United States, but I want to take it further a field into the mainstream market," Hinds said Thursday night. The former Square One lead vocalist was speaking just after she wooed a large crowd at Emerald City Car Park in St Philip at the Banks/Cable & Wireless Cavalcade with her 2005 hit song, Roll It Gal. It was her first appearance on a Barbadian stage since becoming a mother, but Hinds said she is now working towards conquering the international market. "We want it to make that extra step onto Billboard or up to Europe and different places. I think that is where I want to take my music," asserted the diva. Wearing a powder blue jeans and matching halter top, cut on the Empire line, Hinds, who has contracted Adzil Stuart as her beauty and image consultant, showed that she can still roll her waist and bumper. Alison said she would be making other guest appearances during this year's Crop-Over Festival, as well as releasing a few more numbers for the Festival. "I have a couple more tracks to come out for Crop-Over, but I am in the process of working on my solo album which we don't have a release date for yet. I am still working on the songs and we haven't chosen what songs are even going to be on the album as yet," she said. Alison said even though she is no longer with Square One (now Square Roots), the support for the group is still there. "There was never any bad blood between us so I am just continuing my career as a solo artiste, as opposed to being a part of Square One."
