According to Lee Bailey, President of the OECS Golf Association, plans are progressing well for the hosting of the 49th Caribbean Golf Amateur Championships (CGAC) in St. Kitts from 7th - 14th August. 
Seven of the ten territories have now confirmed their participation in the prestigious Caribbean tournament. Teams from the Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos and the OECS will be competing for five divisional and overall team trophies consisting of the Hoerman Cup, Ramon Baez Trophy, Francis/Steele -Perkins Trophy, Higgs and Higgs Trophy, George Teale Cup and the Arthur Ziadie Trophy. Confirmation from Puerto Rico, U.S.V.I and Jamaica are expected shortly, which will complete the field of 140 men and women in competition. Although some teams and officials will arrive from 5th August the majority are expected to arrive on Sunday 7th August. Two practice rounds will be held on the 8th and 9th, with four days of competition beginning on the 10th. Trophies will be awarded on the 13th with teams departing on Sunday 14th. Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come out and see some of the Caribbean's top golfers in action, and giving their support to the OECS team. Fund Raising chairman, Chris English, has to date received V.I.P. Sponsorships from Cable and Wireless, Scotia Bank, Kilpatrick, Marriott Hotel, TDC Group of Companies, and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority. Additional sponsorships have been received from the Embassy, Republic of China on Taiwan and Ram's Group of Companies. LIAT, the Caribbean Airlines has come on board with their support by providing special air fares not only for the CGAC, but also for the Caribbean Junior Championships which will be held in the Dominican Republic from 3rd - 7th July. The OECS Golf Association, tournament hosts, looks forward to an outstanding and successful Championship. |
